Regional Social Welfare Resource Centre of Budapest (BSZF)
The Regional Social Welfare Resource Centre of Budapest was founded in 1995 by the General Assembly of the City of Budapest. The initial role of the organisation was to "Help the helper", to provide social experts with adequate help and assistance, to promote the inclusion of the socially disadvantaged on city level, within the framework of a PHARE national project.
Operating with seven co-workers and several external experts, BSZF is currently running four international projects on social inclusion, three rather large scale national programmes (Human Resources Operative Programme, and Norvegian Fund) and a regional project on NGO networking.
As a member of the European Anti Poverty Network the organisation ensures that promoting social inclusion and fighting poverty remains a primary issue for decision making bodies at all levels.
Their aims at further eliminating social exclusion and poverty in Hungary are by:
- monitoring political developments at government level;
- involving people who live in poverty in lobbying activities and representative procedures; enabling them to voice opinions and to make proposals; promoting social representation
- initiating joint projects to fight poverty and social exclusion
- exchanging experiences, best practices and guidelines with other organisations
- encouraging partnership and potential cooperation between NGOs and local municipalities, state institutions
- developing and supporting transnational partnerships among Hungarian and foreign organisations
- networking with other anti poverty organisations
- promoting visibility of specific national aspects of social exclusion
- introducing and representing directives and policies of the European Union concerning poverty and social exclusion.
